Box Light was designed by the Finnish designer Jonas Hakaniemi for Design House Stockholm. Jonas Hakaniemi is a rising star in the Scandinavian modern design scene. Box Light is a sleek ultra modern minimalist table lamp in the spirit of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe's "less is more" philosophy. A beautiful light that is adjusted by a touch of a hand, doing away with dimmers and superfluous technology. A lamp that is both unusual and possesses a self-evident utility. Jonas Hakaniemi's Box Light delivers an elegant sense of sufficiency; an ambient lamp with simple manual operation. This is as straightforward as interactive design can get. Touch the lamp! Create your own light by sliding the lid, says Jonas, adding that Box Light developed from an idea about using recycled materials for a lamp. The final result has acquired a definite "less is more" form and a practical size. Jonas Hakaniemi, who recently graduated from the Lahti Institute of Design in Finland, promises to continue pursuing eco-design with the ambition of making things simpler, at the same time as reducing environmental impact. Box Light was applauded by the jury at the Red Dot Award as being one of the most innovative, yet timeless modern lamps.

Create your own light by sliding the lid." Jonas has a past in the graphic design business in Finland, and has always been interested in the fusion of industrial design and handicraft. Box Light was born in a workshop making a lamp by recycling a simple matchbox, a concept that now has evolved into a thorough sophistication, while still retaining the feel of eco-design and doing away with redundant technology. Although Jonas graduated from the design school in Helsinki just last year, he has already earned an honorable mention from the Red Dot jury for his Box Light. "Scandinavian design is all about timelessness and good quality objects. It has inner spirit, not just outer shapes. I hope to do more furniture design in the future, and I hope to produce beautiful and easy-to-use objects that make everyday life easier." A new Scandinavian design classic!
