Michael Young:
Born in England in 1966, designer Michael Young studied Furniture and Product Design at Kingston University after which he started working in Tom Dixon's studio. Apart from furniture his designs include lamps, carpets, graphic designs and jewellery. A striking feature of his designs is his openness towards the use of new techniques and materials. Young's work is sometimes counted to the 'organic school'. He uses soft undulating lines and curves, expressive colours and smooth edges. Yet his work is not just decorative: the essence (function) of the product always comes first and is followed by a modest design. Still his products have a warm character.
