Verner Panton: Amoebe Chair - Vitra Lounge Chairs. Panton Amoebe Chair 1970 by Vitra. Panton's chaise lounge named "Amoebe" is a comfortable lounge chair by Vitra Design. Amoebe was created by Verner Panton in 1970 for his famous Visiona installation, which included several versions of this lounge piece. It embodies the exuberant spirit of the early 1970s. Thanks to its upholstered surfaces and the flexible back shell, Amoebe offers a high level of comfort. The Amoebe Highback version of the chair has a flexible backrest that curves over the head of the sitter, forming a sculptural canopy. This striking accent gives the chair a sense of shelter and seclusion. Both chair versions are available in a variety of brightly coloured fabric covers.
We love the unusual and super modern shape of Verner Panton's Amoebe. Verner Panton designed the Amoebe seating unit in 1968 in the context of the Visiona Expo - a psychedelic interior exhibition by Bayer. Inside a Rhine boat Verner Panton created a Visiona landscape whereby each area had its own color pattern and with furniture, carpets, water- and sound effects. Groovy stuff indeed.
Amoebe is now available again in strong bright colors which reflect the spirit of the time of the early 1970's. It is a marvelous example of close-to-the-floor lounge furniture.
